The Difference Between Mermaids And Sirens

In A Nutshell
Somewhere along the literary and mythological road, mermaids and sirens got confused into one creature: a half-woman, half-fish creature known for her beautiful singing voice. Originally, it was only the mermaid that was a half-human, half-fish creature, and a singing voice wasn’t mentioned in early myths. Sirens were the singers, and they were actually half-woman, half-bird creatures.

UPDATE:  Hog Island Maine Osprey Cam ~ Bierre Grabs Fish from Dad 7.26.16
"Bierre (HB) is 50 days old today, followed by Eric HC - 48 days and Spirit HD 46 days old. Steve arrived with another fish and Bierre gets right in there and grabs the fish and self feeds. Good job Bierre! Later Spirit gets the fish and dines too. Lots of wing exercises occurring now - we should be seeing a possible fledge soon. Thank you for watching!"   Video captured and edited by Ladyhawk

Bald Eagle vs. Osprey

"Bald Eagles routinely harass Ospreys and steal their fish. We know of several instances in which Bald Eagles have killed Ospreys, but generally Ospreys are pretty good at staying out of harm's way. " - by Kate Davis

SEA HAWK

The osprey (Pandion haliaetus) — also called fish eagle, sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk — is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey with a cosmopolitan range. It is a large raptor, reaching more than 60 cm (24 in) in length and 180 cm (71 in) across the wings. It is brown on the upper parts and predominantly greyish on the head and underparts.

OSPREY IN FLIGHT WITH FISH. WITH FISH .  DELIVERY . An Osprey struggling to get into the air with a large, squirming fish will streamline its cargo by turning the fish in its talons until it faces forward. .

Birds of Prey

Bald Eagles do not always live up to their patriotic image. I was watching this osprey start to eat a mullet it had just caught when this bald eagle dived towards the osprey. The osprey took off, dropping the fish. The eagle grabbed the fish and was soon being chased by the osprey who did not get it back. The osprey was a slow learner, it was robbed by the same eagle in the same location the next day.
